Learning to Notice Things Again
When I started making art again, after having my babies, I started noticing so much more in life.
Being a mom made me able to slow down and look at the world with fresh eyes.
To be amazed again by little things throughout my day.
My kids were growing, showing me how much magic and life and detail there is in this world.
I started doing the things I love with so much more presence, and I absorbed so many extra details that used to just pass me by.
Motherhood and creativity both ask the same thing of me.
To slow down.
To notice things.
To be in my body. To be present.
But with the chaos of daily life, sometimes that's not even enough.
You end up in doing mode. Fixing-problems mode.
Sometimes you need something more to calm your brain, to feel inspired again.
For me, that's nature.
It brings me back into my body, into my senses.
My brain, these last few weeks, has been working overtime.
Trying to get everything done.
Space search, phone calls, contracts, lawyers.
All while dealing with some chronic pain issues, and settling my kids into a new school.
So last weekend, we visited this river beach I love. Just sitting in the water, trying to find some smooth pebbles. I was totally absorbed in that moment. I could notice all the little things around me. The magical light dancing on the ripples. The color and texture of the leaves nearby. The wind in the trees. The people chatting nearby.
All of it was right there.
I just had to slow down enough to actually see it.
Out of my head. Out of the what's gonna happen, the worry, the anxiety, the future. Just being there.
The combination of these three, motherhood, nature, and creativity, is what keeps bringing me back to myself.
It reminds me there's still magic in the small, ordinary moments, if I slow down enough to catch them.
So I hope this inspires you to slow down.
To find whatever it is that brings you back into your body, back into the moment. ✨
